Meet Dr. Elizabeth Parsley: Neurologist at Mass Vet
We’re excited to introduce the newest member of our specialty team here at Massachusetts Veterinary Referral Hospital, Dr. Elizabeth Parsley, DVM, DACVIM (Neurology)!
With a lifelong passion for animals and a deep commitment to client-centered care, Dr. Parsley brings advanced training, compassionate communication, and a personal connection to her work as a board-certified veterinary neurologist.
A Lifelong Calling
For Dr. Parsley, becoming a veterinarian was always a clear path. “I was one of those lucky kids who always knew what they wanted to do,” she says. “After accompanying our family dog to veterinary appointments growing up, I was completely hooked.” That early passion led her to pursue veterinary school at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, where she earned her DVM in 2014.
She then completed both a rotating internship and a residency in Neurology and Neurosurgery at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University, achieving board certification in Neurology from the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) in 2019. In 2022, she earned her ACVIM Neurosurgical Certificate of Training, highlighting her advanced expertise in neurosurgical procedures.
Special Interests in Neurology
At Mass Vet, Dr. Parsley is especially excited to collaborate across specialties and work closely with pet owners and referring veterinarians throughout the region. Her areas of clinical interest include:
Pain management
Canine cognitive dysfunction
Tethered cord syndrome
Seizure management and polyneuropathies
She also prioritizes a Fear Free approach in every patient interaction. “I always give pets time to adjust to me, use treats when appropriate, and keep handling gently,” she shares. “When necessary, I’ll prescribe medication ahead of visits to reduce stress.”
A Personal Connection to Her Work
Dr. Parsley’s love for neurology doesn’t stop at the hospital doors. At home, she shares her life with an adorable group of four beagles: Abbey, Penny, Ellie, and Thelma, as well as four cats: Cosmo, Leo, Jammie, and Bee. Many of her pets live with neurologic conditions themselves, including intervertebral disc disease, seizures, and polyneuropathy, giving her a unique and personal understanding of what her patients and their families are going through.
Outside the Hospital
When she’s not in the hospital, Dr. Parsley enjoys playing tennis, learning golf with her husband, and exploring new restaurants. A self-proclaimed foodie and lifelong learner, she brings curiosity and energy to everything she does.
We’re thrilled to welcome Dr. Parsley to the Mass Vet team. Her knowledge, empathy, and collaborative spirit make her an invaluable addition to our Neurology department—and a trusted partner for pet owners and referring veterinarians alike.
