Many pets suffer from diseases of the kidneys, bladder, or urinary tract. The Mass Vet Nephrology and Urology department offers diagnostics and treatments including minimally invasive endourologic treatments as well as hemodialysis.
The department consists of Dr. Adrienne Cheney DVM, MS, DACVIM (SAIM), Dr. Rachel Cooper, DVM, DACVIM (SAIM), Dr. Daisy Spear DVM, DACVIM (SAIM) and Dr. Scott Taylor BVSc, DACVECC
Conditions to be evaluated and managed include:
Acute kidney injury
Chronic kidney disease
Protein Losing Nephropathy (PLN)
Urinary incontinence
Inappropriate urination
Prevention and management of bladder stones
Recurrent urinary tract infections
Diagnosis of urinary tract cancers
Management of kidney disease with other complicated disease processes (heart disease, hyperthyroidism, diabetes etc.)
Prostatic disease
Diagnostics and treatments available include:
Cystoscopy with cystoscopic biopsies
Laser therapy for ectopic ureters
Subcutaneous ureteral bypass (SUB) surgery and management
Ureteral stents
Urethral stents
Urethral submucosal collagen bulking
Percutaneous cystolithotomy (PCCL)
Voiding urohydropropulsion (VUH)
Extracorporeal therapies including hemoperfusion, acute intermittent hemodialysis and therapeutic plasma exchange
