Alex Walker BVSc, DACVS-SA

Dr. Walker was born and raised in sunny Australia. She completed her veterinary degree and graduated with first class honors from the University of Sydney. She then completed a small animal rotating internship and an advanced surgical and emergency medicine internship at Ocean State Veterinary Specialists in Rhode Island. Dr. Walker spent the next few years in Boston practicing emergency medicine and performing emergency surgeries before completing her small animal surgical residency at Massachusetts Veterinary Referral Hospital. After residency, Dr. Walker passed her board examinations and was admitted as a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. She worked as a specialist surgeon in Brooklyn, NY for several years but is extremely happy to return to Boston.

Dr. Walker is trained in soft tissue, orthopedic, and minimally invasive procedures. She particularly enjoys orthopedic surgery (including cranial cruciate ligament and patellar luxation surgery), hepatobiliary (liver and gallbladder) surgery, oncologic (cancer) surgery, and reconstructive procedures such as skin flaps. Dr. Walker will work with you to ensure that your questions are answered prior to surgery and that pursuing surgery is the right choice for you and your pet.

Outside of the hospital, Dr. Walker plays the drums, collects cassette tapes, and cares for her beloved hermit crab named Carl.
