Antonio Monteiro

Dr. Monteiro earned his veterinary degree from the University of Florida and has a special interest in emergency medicine. He especially enjoys the collaborative nature of working in a large specialty hospital, where he can partner with colleagues across different departments and draw on a wide range of resources to provide the best possible care for their patients.

When caring for anxious or nervous pets, Dr. Monteiro believes in meeting each patient where they are. His approach includes plenty of positive reinforcement and allowing the pet to set the pace of the physical exam, helping create a more comfortable and low-stress experience.

At home, Dr. Monteiro shares life with Kenai, a chocolate Labrador, who apparently believes he’s the same size as his black cat, Bruce. Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Monteiro enjoys boxing and strength training, as well as spending time outdoors reading, grilling, and walking his dog.

Dr. Monteiro is excited to be part of the Massachusetts Veterinary Referral Hospital team and looks forward to using the hospital’s extensive specialty resources to offer a broad spectrum of care to pets and their families.
